Coming to Liverpool for the first time - Sunday 14 – Saturday 20 August 2011.
The hugely popular Dance India Festival returns this year with a stunning new line-up of brilliant artistes - for the first time in Liverpool! This unique festival offers the rare opportunity of watching the greatest dancers of India and the UK performing different styles of classical dance each evening including Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Kathak and Kuchipudi. Also represented will be the rarely seen dance forms Mohiniattam and Kathakali.
The week will include performances by Leela Samson, Sujata Mohapatra, Priyadarsini Govind, Vyjayanthi Kashi, Maulik & Ishira, Shijith & Parvathy and many more.
Each evening features double bill performances of two different styles, giving audience members an insight into the dynamic diversity of Indian dance.
Known for its vibrant intensity, distinct forms, costumes and makeup, grace and style; Indian Dance is a unique experience to behold.
From stalwart performers to future stars of the next generation – all in one unforgettable week! There are four dance styles that have been awarded classical dance status; Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Kuchipudi and Kathak. Indian classical dance forms are devotional in nature, and tell the stories of Hindu Mythology through movement and abhinaya, the art of facial expression.
The Dance India Festival is run parallel to Milapfest's International Summer School of the same name.
Each evening of the festival, Liverpool based Indian restaurant Mayur will be on site serving delicious meals and snacks.
