An Amazing Season of Indian Events in Liverpool

India has a rich cultural history that has evolved over thousands of years to become one of the most diverse civilisations in the world. Enriched my successive waves of migration and a great variety of religious practice, the cultural traditions in each state of India are distinct, dynamic and revered by those who carry the traditions.

Milapfest’s autumn programme brings a snapshot of the variety of Indian culture to Liverpool. Bharatanatyam from the southern state of Tamil Nadu, Carnatic Music from the South, and Hindustani Music from the North are all featured in Milapfest’s coming season, and will offer a glimpse at a country that is inherently eclectic, vibrant and culturally engaged.

The season opens on 24 September with a specially themed concert by Tarang, the National Ensemble for Indian Music, entitled From Dusk till Dawn, which takes listeners on a musical journey through the moods of a single day. The concert is part of Milapfest’s monthly free lunchtime concert series, Music for the Mind and Soul, at The Capstone Theatre. The series was created as an opportunity for audience members to enjoy an afternoon of stress free relaxation in an ever busier city life. The series takes place at 1pm on the last Saturday of every month, and a delicious Indian lunch is available from series sponsor, Indian restaurant Mayur.
