Liverpool-based Bibby Line Group has scooped a national UK award recognising the charitable contributions of its business and employees. They beat off stiff competition from household names including Royal Bank of Scotland, First Direct and Hilton Hotels to win the Employee Engagement award at the annual UK Business Charity Awards earlier this week. Judges praised the Giving Something Back programme highlighting that, in their experience, the philosophy and sustained results delivered by the scheme were truly unique.
Through the Giving Something Back programme the business and its employees raised almost £890,000 for 271 local and international charities during 2010. The programme incorporates matched donations and fundraising activities at a local, individual level as well as national events – including Dragon Boat racing and the Kilimanjaro Challenge. Bibby also encourages employees to take part in volunteering schemes, which last year ranged from tree planting to building a school in Uganda.
Steve Potter, Associate Strategy Director of Bibby Line Group, said: “As a company, Giving Something Back has provided us with a unique opportunity to make a real difference to charities that are close to the hearts of our employees, which is what makes this programme unique. We’re proud of the response that we’ve had since launching the programme in 2007 and this award is testament to the hard work and dedication shown by so many of members of the Bibby team.”
