BIG Society Research for the North West Still Open

How is Government policy affecting your organisation? Help build the evidence base by taking part in the Equality, Big Society and Localism in the North West research programme.

The aim of the research is to make the socio-economic case for equality within the Big Society and Localism policy agenda: what will be the social and economic cost if Big Society and Localism fail to embed equality? This work will identify solutions, make recommendations to policy-makers and strengthen the case for equality within the current debate around ‘fairness’, in the process, promoting the value of the equalities voluntary and community sector in the North West.

The research aimsto explore the effect of policies on people within the 'protected' characteristics as set out in the Equality Act 2010. The protected characteristics are as follows:

  • Race/ethnicity
  • Gender
  • Maternity
  • Faith/Belief
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Older people
  • Disability
  • Transgender
  • Younger people

The research team consists of researchers from the Centre for Local Policy Studies at Edge Hill University and the Centre for Local Economic Strategies.
