SOLA Arts' new 'stART up' project supports creative skills for refugees, asylum seekers and other members of minority communities. For the project, SOLA Arts works with women from Student Action for Refugees Women's Group. The project will involve the production of online and print magazines, covering issues such as fashion, cultural sharing, social issues, migration and personal stories.
Some great ideas for the magazine articles include hair braiding, jewellery-making, fashion, wedding traditions, henna, sewing techniques, women asylum seekers and the issues they face around motherhood, healthy eating and recipes. To carry out the project, SOLA Arts is in need of support in the form of donations of different coloured fabrics (especially African), sewing machine cotton thread, hair extensions for braiding and beads of different sizes for jewellery-making.
