Equality Act 2010
The Charity Commission recently asked all charities to review the objects in their governing documents to make sure they line up with the Act. Trustees need to understand the specific exemption of charities will only apply if the 'discrimination' is already written into their governing document. An example might be where the charity provides services to people from a particular racial group, but their governing document is broader in its objects. The Equality Act will be tested and needs to be taken seriously.
