One of the largest “green” training centres in the country has opened in Liverpool. Liverpool Community College has opened the £250,000 facility, which includes a life-size house on which students can practice installing equipment, at its construction and engineering faculty on Vauxhall Road.
The centre includes a 3,000 sq ft workshop and will offer courses that lead to industry-recognised qualifications for electricians, plumbers and heating engineers in “sustainable” technology, from installing solar panels to heat pumps and water recycling systems. The college says these qualifications will soon become legal requirement for everyone working in the industry.
Elaine Bowker, principal of Liverpool Community College, said, “Currently there is a skills shortage in the sustainable sector and Liverpool Community College is looking to address this by providing courses which are both vital and in the near future will be a legal requirement.
“It’s predicted that demand for green technology will be significant in the next few years and we want to work with businesses and upskill workers now, so Liverpool and the wider region will be at the forefront of the green revolution.”
The centre will be one of only six in the country offering training in all green technologies.
