Hotel Respite for Liverpool’s Unpaid Carers

Unpaid carers who look after a sick or disabled relative or friend are to benefit from free overnight stays at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Liverpool city centre to provide them with a break from their caring role. The Crowne Plaza is the second Liverpool hotel to sign up to the initiative after the Malmaison.

Carers often experience stress and isolation due to their care-giving role. The Liverpool Carers Centre provides a range of emotional and practical support in response to carers’ needs.

The Liverpool Carers Centre within Local Solutions is managed by Hazel Brown, who approached the Crowne Plaza earlier this year and was delighted when they agreed to sign up.

She comments: “I am delighted that the Crowne Plaza Liverpool is supporting local carers. Respite is something valued by carers and to be able to offer this in two of our prestigious hotels in Liverpool is wonderful. Liverpool is indeed a caring city.”

General Manager of Crowne Plaza Liverpool, Stephen Roberts, said: “The Crowne Plaza Liverpool is delighted to be working with Local Solutions to provide respite care for full time carers. This initiative is for a local charity and helps local people. It is a privilege to be involved in the giving of much needed overnight breaks at a great hotel that guests love.”

The Liverpool Carers Centre would also be grateful for any other hotels who would be interested in setting up a pilot respite scheme for carers.
