Liverpool Band the Farm Gets Charity Walkers All Together Now

Best known for their hit single ‘All Together Now’, members of one of Liverpool’s most successful indie bands of the 90s, The Farm, are to officially start off a major charity walk around Sefton Park.

Band members will start the ball rolling against the background strains of their renowned chart topper, as hundreds of walkers gather for a Midnight Candle Walk in aid of two major local charities – Claire House Children’s Hospice and Clatterbridge Cancer Research. Also helping get walkers in the mood and hosting the event will be Jay Hynd and Claire Simonsen, best known for Radio City’s Rossie and Co Breakfast Show.

Walkers will assemble on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month (2011) to celebrate the recovered, the recovering and remember those they’ve loved and lost.

Among those to register was 111th walker, Carol Finlayson from West Derby, Liverpool, who said: “I’m walking for my mum who lost the battle with cancer 16 years ago. Unfortunately I know many people who have been touched by this disease, but I also know many people who have won the battle and are in remission and this is due to the investment in cancer research. I’m walking for everyone’s future.”

The walk is one of the most important landmark events for both Claire House and Clatterbridge Cancer Research. Not only is it a key fundraising event, it puts people who have been touched by cancer and other life-limiting conditions together to do something positive.

Both charities are delighted members of one of Liverpool’s most popular bands have offered to help. Their famous hit song will be featured as they cut a ribbon to start off the walkers.

“’All Together Now’ is the perfect inspirational song to set our walkers on their way,” said Clatterbridge Cancer Research’s Events Fundraising Manager Cath O’Grady. “We’re all very grateful to The Farm for giving us their support.

“It’s going to be quite an event this year and we’re hoping for a record number of walkers – especially as we’ll be raising money for two causes which are particularly close to people’s hearts.”

The Claire House and Clatterbridge Cancer Research Midnight Candle Walk covers a five mile stewarded route around the well-lit perimeter of Sefton Park. Registration fees (£10) include a battery-operated candle and there will be plenty of fun warm-up activity from 11pm at the Samuel Smith Obelisk on the corner of Aigburth/Croxteth Drive before setting off on the stroke of midnight.

The charities are inviting people to ‘walk in memory of loved ones they have lost, for those undergoing treatment and in celebration of those who have conquered illness.’ Everyone is welcome, including late night dog walkers. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
