Liverpool Cancer Research UK to Join the City of Liverpool's Freedom Roll

Liverpool Cancer Research UK Centre is the latest organisation to join the City of Liverpool's Freedom Roll of Associations and Institutions, joining esteemed company such as Liverpool Echo, Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs and LCVS.

The honour was first proposed by Leader of the Council, Cllr Joe Anderson following a visit to the laboratories in 2010. The award is given in recognition of the Centre's work fighting cancer in Liverpool through research and outreach work.

The Illuminated Scroll will be presented by the Lord Mayor at an event at Liverpool Town Hall on Wednesday 8 February, attended by 150 guests including Dr. Harpal Kumar, Chief Executive of Cancer Research UK, Prof Sir Howard Newby, Vice Chancellor of University of Liverpool and Derek Campbell, Chief Executive of NHS Merseyside.

Centre Director, Professor John Neoptolemos will be accepting the award on the evening, and Cancer Research UK's Cancer Awareness Roadshow will be on Exchange Flags from 3.30 pm.

Emma Squibb, the Centre's Local Engagement manager said: "All the staff at the Centre are enormously proud to be receiving this award, the highest civic accolade the City can give. The overarching aim of all of our work, from clinical trials to school visits, is to reduce the number of cancer deaths in Liverpool, and this Award will certainly help us in our efforts."
