People in Liverpool have the chance to make walking and cycling in the area better than ever, by helping charity Sustrans. During National Volunteers Week on 1-7 June, Sustrans is hoping that more people will feel inspired to help maintain and improve the Liverpool Loop Line, which is a popular local route on the National Cycle Network.
Volunteer workdays happen every other Tuesday, with the next one planned for Tuesday 7 June, 2011 from 10:30am. People will meet at the Seeds Lane entrance to the path in Fazakerley and get involved with pruning back vegetation, litter-picking and painting signs.
Alice Rickwood, Sustrans Area Manager in Merseyside, said: ‘The National Cycle Network now extends 13,000 miles across the UK and the only way such a vast Network is able grow and be looked after is thanks to the help of volunteers. The Liverpool Loop Line is a very well-used, traffic-free path that allows people to travel on foot or bike away from busy city roads. It’s a great resource and deserves to be looked after. We hope to see lots of people coming along to improve their local area for the benefit of everyone.’
A recent survey of Sustrans volunteers1 found that making a difference locally is one of their main motivations for getting involved with the charity and that more than a third of people (36%) who volunteer with Sustrans have seen an improvement in their health and wellbeing because of it.
All are welcome to join in with the Tuesday workdays and equipment will be provided. To reserve a place contact Alice on alice.rickwood@sustrans.org.uk or telephone 07799 037044.
