Liverpool Triathlon has announced major partnerships with three official charities for the 2011 event, taking place on Sunday 26 June next year. They are disability charity Scope, Clatterbridge Your Cancer Centre and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). The partnership with the charities will help the event raise substantial sums for three very worthy causes, says organiser, Mass Participation Events.
Now in its third year, the Liverpool Triathlon is on track to grow to over 2,000 participants. Competitors are inspired by the chance to race at the heart of one of the country’s most iconic locations on fully closed roads, taking in many of the City’s famous landmarks. With three distances on offer, from Super-Sprint to Olympic, the Liverpool Triathlon provides a great setting for people of all ages and abilities to take up the triathlon challenge. Those who don’t feel like racing in three sports can sign up for the team event where one person completes each discipline.
Kevin Stewart, managing director of Mass Participation Events said: “It is great to be working with such fantastic charities for 2011 and the partnership demonstrates how the profile of the Liverpool Triathlon is growing to become one of the ‘must do events’ in the triathlon calendar. We hope to see lots of people fundraising for our official charities come 26 June 2011.”
Lisa Rutter, events manager for the RNLI said: “We are absolutely delighted to be involved in the Liverpool Triathlon for 2011. With both volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards operating in the local area we hope that participants will pledge their support and join ‘Team Lifeboat’.”
Tom Woolley, events manager at Clatterbridge Your Cancer Centre said: “Clatterbridge Your Cancer Centre is thrilled to be part of the Liverpool Triathlon for the third year running. We had a fantastic presence at this year’s event and raised over £17,000. However, next year we hope to be able to get this figure to over £20,000 because the money we raise is vital in providing the best possible care to our patients at the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology.”
Claudine Sharples, sports fundraiser at Scope said: “We’re delighted to be chosen as one of the main charity partners for the Liverpool Triathlon. It really is a fantastic opportunity for both experienced triathletes and first timers to get involved and experience this iconic event whilst raising vital funds to support our work and make a real difference to the lives of thousands of disabled people.
The Liverpool Triathlon starts with the swim section in the Queen’s Dock with bike and run courses around Liverpool’s city centre on Sunday 26 June 2011. For details and to enter please go to www.liverpooltriathlon.co.uk.
