Migrant Women’s Integration Programme

The aim of this project is to engage with 60 migrant women each year to help them integrate into British society through improving their English language skills. The project runs to Monday 30 June 2014.

ESOL speaking and listening will be the core provision of the project, but learners will also be able to access an unlimited number of additional classes including reading and writing, citizenship, Liverpool history and culture, film club and ICT. Classes are delivered predominantly on-site at Hugh Baird College, but also at a range of community venues.

To complement the above, the programme will also offer students the opportunity to go on field trips and cultural visits to places of national historic and cultural significance, and signposting to other agencies for information, advice and guidance on health, benefits, employment and childcare. Learners will have access to a volunteer mentor, as well as college support facilities such as the careers team, chaplain and counsellor.

In addition, each learner will have a wireless enabled laptop for the year for which they are enrolled to enable them to study at home, but also to develop a support network using a dedicated website and forum. The information on the website will be accessible to all future migrants giving them information needed for people new to the country based on the experiences of the participants of the programme.
