Neurosupport, a Liverpool charity which offers support to people with all sorts of neurological conditions, is launching a season of films this summer. Called NeuroCinema, this ongoing programme will couple a film with a neurological theme or subject with a talk from an expert in the particular field.
Danny Start, Neurosupport’s events co-ordinator explains: "I discovered a course taught at a major American university called NeuroCinema—where students are shown movies as part of their studies into neurological conditions. And I thought 'What a great idea!' Neurosupport has links with many neurological charities so it seemed just a matter of putting the experts together with the films to make an interesting, informative and entertaining season of films."
NeuroCinema is being launched with the film ‘Hilary and Jackie’ on 29 June at the Contemporary Urban Centre Liverpool, in its state of the art cinema. ‘Hilary and Jackie’ tells the story of cellist Jacqueline Du Pre and her struggle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Danny continues ‘It seemed the ideal film to start the season as it was written by local writing legend Frank Cottrell Boyce and stars Liverpool’s David Morrissey. And our close links with the Multiple Sclerosis Society mean that they have agreed to give a presentation on MS to introduce the film.’
The launch of NeuroCinema will open at 6pm on Wednesday 29 June at the CUC with a wine and canapé reception kindly sponsored by A&M Wealth management. The programme commences at 7pm.
Tickets for the first film are £6.50 and available by reservation from Neurosupport. Telephone Danny or Carolyn on 0151 298 2999 or e-mail danny@neurosupport.org.uk / carolyn@neurosupport.org.uk.
