New Mental Health Project for Young People

Positive Progress is a new partnership between Merseyside Youth Association and Mary Seacole House, offering 14-week personal development opportunities to some of Merseyside’s hardest to reach young people, starting on Friday 22 July 2011.

The project provides services for young people (18-25 yrs) who were experienced challenges around issues of poor mental health. This could be through:

  • An actual diagnosis of a mental health illness
  • Being a carer for a family member who has a mental health illness
  • Being subject to risk factors that may lead to a mental health issue in the future (e.g. drug use, unemployment, family breakdown)

The project aims to:

  • Increase positive mental health
  • Build confidence
  • Promote positive thinking
  • Encourage leadership skills
  • Advance cultural awareness
  • Develop performance skills

The programme is open to all young people between the ages of 18-25, with particular focus on young men from BME backgrounds, as research shows that these young people are amongst our most vulnerable when it comes to accessing support with such issues.

The service will be delivered in various Central and South Liverpool locations.
