New Report on Gender Equality in Liverpool

'Mining the Gap' is a new report by Sasha Deepwell, Hope University researcher. Commissioned by LCVS in conjunction with the Women's Network and funded by Liverpool City Council, the report looks at statistics that relate to the situation of women in Liverpool. The report is an important position statement on the situation of women in today's Liverpool in key service areas such as Education, Health and well being, Crime and Community Safety and the Economy.

The report show some disturbing trends in Liverpool:

  • Domestic and sexual violence are increasing.
  • Women's unemployment is increasing.
  • The number of teenage pregnancies in Liverpool are increasing, but decreasing in other cities.
  • Girls are doing very well in education yet tend to be unable to secure higher paid jobs.
  • Mortality rates from cervical and breast cancer are higher in Liverpool when compared to other core cities.
