Sahir House Says: Act Aware

881 people tested HIV positive in the Northwest in 2009. 1 in 3 infections are unknown in the UK. HIV is a preventable virus however; people in the UK continue to become infected.

The sooner people are tested the sooner HIV treatment can be offered to them if it’s needed. To help address the significant number of people who remain untested, Sahir House offered a 20-minute finger prick HIV test around the World Aids Day on 1 December. Being given the result in 20 minutes shortens the time of what is a very stressful process.

In recognition of World Aids Day Sahir House hosted a Candlelit Vigil in the setting of St George’s Hall, this event was attended by over 400 guests.

Dean Sullivan, Sahir House Patron commented:

“The fight against HIV continues and is relentless; more and more people with HIV are leading rich and fulfilled lives through the advances of medicine and treatments but there are those who battled bravely and who have now gone before; we remember them on World Aids Day, together with their families, friends and carers. This vigil is for them and reminds us that the fight goes on; wear your ribbon with PRIDE.”
