For many years the Liverpool JET service team at Dingle Opportunities have helped support individuals from some of the most disadvantaged areas of Liverpool. They have supported the long term unemployed into jobs, men and women into training and further education opportunities and provided the specialist knowledge to help in the creation of new business start-ups. As well as providing 1-to-1 guidance and practical job search support, they have been providing access to job vacancies, job and training application support, job search facilities, access to phones, computers, CV preparation, online vacancies. All these services will be lost to local residents living in the South Central Area including - Princess Park, Dingle, Toxteth, Granby and Picton.
The service is run by local people supporting local residents and others across the City. The staff are dedicated professional advisers with many years of experience, who take pride in advancing the livelihoods of their clients and the prosperity of their community. Regrettably, Liverpool City Council have decided to end this vital and essential service for the South Central area of the City, thus depriving residents in an area with the highest unemployment rate in the country of a support service specifically targeted at helping them through the worst recession in living history. Services in other parts of Liverpool are continuing; it is only in the South Central area that the closure of the service is proposed.
At a time when Liverpool is reflecting on the events of 30 years ago and the social consequences that the riots and unrest had on the City for many years after, this proposed closure is a cut too far and must be reversed.
It is urged that residents, councillors, MP’s, and Executive Officers fight against this decision.
