Beatles Day
The first ever Beatles Day last year made the news in places as diverse as China, Russia and New Zealand! The Tourist Information Office in Liverpool City Centre reported Beatles Day as its second busiest day ever!
Beatles Day raised a whopping amount in just one day in Liverpool last year, so let’s see how much we can raise by taking it National and International this year!
Beatles-style mop-top wigs, t-shirts and badges will now be available worldwide as they are being sold online at beatlesday.tv as well as through many retail stockists throughout the Northwest in the days leading up to Friday 10 July. Over 20,000 mop-tops were worn for Beatles Day last year! It returns for a second time on 10 July 2009. Prepare to don your mop-top in the name of charity, and visit the host of Beatles themed family fundraising events taking place throughout the city of Liverpool, and other cities throughout the world. The climax of the day will be the Beatles Day concert at the Arena in which a host of stars will perform the best of the Beatles songs. The concert will once again be hosted by the irrepressible Ricky Tomlinson. Beatles Mop-tops will be available free, with your purchase of a ticket to the concert, from the Tourist Information office in Whitechapel or from the Arena Box Office. They will also be available for sale at various outlets around the Northwest from 22 May. The Beatles Day Foundation is a charitable trust that raises money for local worthy causes. Beneficiaries of the proceeds raised from this year's Beatles Day will include The Imagine Appeal for Alder Hey Children's Hospital and the Marina Dalglish Appeal for a radiotherapy centre in Liverpool.
The 10 July will be forever known as Beatles Day and that date was chosen for this celebration as it is the anniversary of the Beatles triumphant return to Liverpool from the States and the premiere of the film 'Hard Day's Night' in 1964. The streets were lined with thousands of adoring fans and we intend to re-create the same sort of Beatlemania this year.
