Registered charity number 219370
The Skelton Bounty is a charitable trust empowered to make grants only to legally constituted charities established in the geographical County of Lancashire (as it existed in 1934) predominantly of the residents of that County.
Although the Governors enjoy complete discretion when considering applications, they are inclined to favour applications for:
- Equipment from organisations supporting the elderly, people with disability and from youth groups
- Holidays for disadvantaged children and carers
- Small specific capital projects of proven viability from community groups
The Governors do not usually fund:
- Large building appeals
- Revenue expenditure
and do not make grants to individuals.
It is their policy to make relatively modest grants to a wide number of applicants, which tend to be in the range of £500 - £3,000 but can be, exceptionally, as high as £5,000. The total annual income at their disposal is approximately £100,000.
Applications from eligible charities for grants may be made only on the special form attached to this page or obtainable from :- Cockshott Peck, Lewis, Solicitors, 24 Hoghton Street, Southport, PR9 0PA.
Applications should be submitted to Cockshott Peck Lewis at the above address between 1 January and 31 March each year. Applications received at any other time will not be considered.
It will be necessary to submit with the completed application forms not only relevant information to support but also, where applicable, estimates or quotations, all in as concise a form as possible as copies need to be made and there are many applications to consider. A copy of the latest audited accounts will be required and in case of an application from a local branch of a national charity, the local accounts should be submitted.
Ideally, the documentation in support of an application should not exceed 4 pages of A4 paper to include the accounts.
An appropriate set of accompanying documentation would normally consist of the most recent balance sheet and income and expenditure account, some general information about the charity and the object for which the grant is requested. If appropriate, copies of estimates/ quotations obtained for items to be purchased or work undertaken should be submitted.
It is not the usual practice of the administrator to acknowledge receipt of applications unless specifically requested to do so.
Grants to eligible charities are determined by the Governors at an annual meeting held each summer. After the meeting applicants are notified in writing of the decision of the Governors.
