Facilitated by Adfam, this free training is for family support workers and practitioners working with complex needs families with entrenched multiple problems, where children may be at risk and offending behaviour may feature within the family. These practitioners include, for example, Family Intervention Key Workers requiring an ‘entry level plus’ training.

This two-day training course focuses on raising awareness about the nature of substance misuse and its recognition, and its impact on families, children, parenting and safeguarding.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Identify behaviours associated with someone who is addicted to substances and those who care for them
  2. Recall what commonly used substances look like, what drug-using paraphernalia looks like, and how someone looks or behaves when using commonly used substances
  3. Describe the ‘Cycle of change’ and select basic treatment interventions
  4. Describe what constitutes ‘good enough’ parenting and how problematic drug and alcohol use by parents may cause risk to their children
  5. Learn to make a disclosure to the relevant authority in line with organisational procedures.

Criteria for participants:

  • Applicants should be currently working with complex needs families with entrenched multiple problems, where children may be at risk and offending behaviour may feature within the family. Applicants are also required to ensure that they can commit to both days of the training, and a cancellation charge may apply to those who do not attend either of the days.
  • Participants' managers will need to confirm that they meet the above criteria in order to qualify for a place on the training.

Book online.

To ensure all applicants are eligible and the limited places fairly allocated, only applications completed with the details of the individual proposed attendee will be accepted.
