Involving Spontaneous Volunteers in COVID-19 – Early Lessons and Good Practices

A closed session for those who are organising the volunteer response to COVID-19 (national and local authority planners: LRF managers: resilience planner and partners only).

Volunteers are a significant part of the current effort at the national and local level. Registering, coordinating and tasking large numbers of local volunteers.

This session will be a first opportunity to take stock of these early days of implementation of the largest ever engagement of volunteers during civil emergencies in the UK.

Speakers/attendees will share early experiences, innovations and hurdles from around the UK. In order to explore emerging good practices, identify critical elements of national guidance and enablers – and local planning (especially infrastructure support, digital solutions, resources, management, supervision & skills, resilience and continuity, risk management and welfare considerations).

This session will help look ahead and identify knowledge gaps, opportunities and potential challenges as we enter the most acute phase of responding to COVID-19.

The event has been organised jointly by Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government, Crown Commercial Service, Emergency Planning College and Manchester University.
