Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton is now taking advance bookings for the new day care service for people living with dementia to be held at the Poppy Centre in Clubmoor.
The service will provide respite for carers and support and stimulation for people living with dementia. This nurse-led service recognises that those of us living with dementia need to feel safe and carers need to know their loved ones are enjoying an environment which concentrates on them as individuals, encouraging and emphasising strengths and interests.
Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton intends to ensure that people are recognised as unique, are physically and mentally challenged in a setting which offers reminiscence, singing, poetry readings, games, gardening, quizzes and gentle exercise and one which is not afraid to listen to new ideas and suggestions. There is a 5-star rated on-site kitchen and catering for a range of dietary and medical needs, which will be put to use with snacks and a three-course lunch each day, included in the daily cost.
The charity has listened to carers and the opportunity to have a rest, go to work or just have some “me time” will be invaluable and help to ensure that their relationship with the person they care for stays positive and strong.
The opening times will be 8am-6pm, Monday to Friday, making full or part-time work possible, if desired. Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton will answer initial enquiries, discuss costs, other financial advice, form filling and signposting to additional local community support, if needed. Once established, Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton will set up carers groups, so that people can meet and support each other.
The day care service is located at the Poppy Centre, 179 Townsend Lane, Clubmoor, Liverpool L13 9DY. It has private parking available for drop-off and pick-ups.
