Caring for Merseyside Awards

Awards celebrate Merseyside’s social care workforce

New awards to honour ‘hidden heroes’ working in the care sector are being launched by a Merseyside charity.

“The Caring for Merseyside Awards will recognise the brilliant work delivered by carers across the Liverpool City Region,” said Paul Growney, CEO of Merseyside charity Caring Connections.

The local care company and charity wants to celebrate the best in care and also respond to the increasing demand in the sector by showing people the range of roles and opportunities available.

A new report by social care training organisation Skills for Care has found that there are 30,000 front-line social care workers across the Liverpool City Region.

Paul Growney added: “The health and social care sector is really struggling at the moment, with very high demands for service, difficulties in recruiting new staff and increasing financial pressures.

“There are thousands across Merseyside who work within this sector and provide the backbone to the local community.

“Without these people many of our local services would fall down and the wellbeing of local residents would be severely reduced. These people deliver an incredibly valuable job, often under great stress, and still manage to provide a caring service.

“We have founded the Caring for Merseyside Awards to celebrate these hidden heroes within the Liverpool City Region. We would like to encourage employees and service users to nominate their star carers.”

Nominations are now open, for people to submit their vote for a carer who has gone above and beyond their call of duty and provided outstanding care.

There are 12 award categories – including support worker of the year, dementia worker of the year and care apprentice.

The awards will be presented at an annual event for the care workforce – the first will be held at Liverpool Town Hall, on Saturday January 26 2019.
