Comics Youth CIC is an innovative non-profit that delivers comics-based literacy and wellbeing projects for disadvantaged children and young people aged 8-25 within Merseyside and the wider Knowsley Borough. The overall ethos of the organisation is to break down participation barriers for marginalised groups including looked after children, young LGBTQIA people, care leavers, young carers and young people experiencing complex mental ill-health within the Liverpool City Region to make, create and publish comic books about salient community issues. Sessions are delivered within safe, inclusive, and indiscriminate community venues.
The post of Graphic Medicine Project Worker is an exciting and dynamic position that is integral to the development of Comics Youth CIC’s core mission and objectives. The post-holder will provide an integrated package of proactive, reactive, and rehabilitative support for chronically and terminally ill young people aged 8 – 18 via the delivery of ward-based and online comic book creation as well as graphic narrative sessions in conjunction with patients. The role will require an aptitude for illustration and considerable energy, enthusiasm, passion, and empathy to inspire young people to have their voices heard. The post holder will develop resources for young people and deliver one-to-one workshops at the bedside and via Microsoft teams in conjunction with project staff to capture patient voices. The project will culminate in publishing an anthology of young people’s patient stories. 50% of the role will entail direct Youth Work and 50% will entail illustration work.
