Comics Youth CIC – Safe Spaces – Reclaiming Community Spaces (Freelance Opportunity)

Salary: £125 per day.
Hours per week: 1-2 days per week (22 days in total).
Reporting to: Youth Empowerment Director.
Location: Liverpool.

Comics Youth CIC is an innovative non-profit that delivers comics-based literacy and wellbeing projects for disadvantaged children and young people aged 8-25 within Merseyside and the wider Knowsley Borough. The overall ethos of the organisation is to break down participation barriers for marginalised groups including looked after children, LGBTQIA young people, care leavers, young carers and young people experiencing complex mental ill health within the Liverpool City Region to make, create and publish comic books about salient community issues. Sessions are delivered within safe, inclusive, and indiscriminate community venues.

The Safe Spaces Coordinator (Freelance) will deliver workshops to LGBTQIA children and young people aged 10-18, with the aim of supporting them to develop a ‘reclaiming community spaces’ social action project within Liverpool City Centre. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and young people and a good understanding of developing social action campaigns, event management and record keeping. They will be able to effectively deliver workshops, develop session plans, work to deadlines, and have excellent attention to detail.

Aim of the project:

  • To support LGBTQIA youth and marginalised youth to access community spaces.
  • To increase community cohesion through the establishment of social action projects to reclaim Community Spaces within Liverpool.
  • To increase awareness about LGBTQIA and mental health issues within the Liverpool City Region.
