Comics Youth Vacancies

Comics Youth is a Social Enterprise that delivers comics-based literacy and wellbeing projects for disadvantaged children and young people within Merseyside. The overall ethos of the organisation is to break down participation barriers and make projects accessible for children and young people aged 8-18 through delivering comic book creation and guided reading sessions in safe, inclusive and indiscriminate community venues.

Comics 180! is a newly created BBC Children in Need funded project that will engage young people with disabilities within the Liverpool area to create, design and publish original comic books and zines regarding their disability status, salient community issues and topics of interests that are important to them. The organisation is currently recruiting for the following posts:

Leader in Charge

Salary: £22.5k pro rata

Hours per week: 20 hours per week

Job role entails:

  • Support and empower children and young people to develop creative avenues of interest to make and publish Comics about salient community issues
  • Lead the delivery of comic book creation and guided reading sessions to increase the self-esteem, educational attainment and literacy levels of children and young people
  • Effectively develop programmes of informal education, literacy and arts, supporting young people to attain AQA qualifications
  • Regularly consult with children and young people on providing regular activities, opportunities and formal and informal training to encourage engagement, improve confidence, develop skills and raise aspirations

Youth Worker

Salary: £20k pro rata

Hours: 15 hours per week

Job role entails:

  • Support the Leader in Charge in the delivery of comic book creation and guided reading sessions for children and young people with disabilities within Liverpool
  • Teach and demonstrate art techniques to make varied styles of comics through workshops
  • Develop publicity materials for the projects and update written contributions for the Comics Youth website, newsletter and social media presence
  • Choose and present a wide range of comics, graphic novels and manga in order to generate free-flowing conversation
