Declaration – A play about ADHD and diagnosis

Event Date: 01 July 2017

Saturday 1 July 2017, 7.30pm – The Black-E

Declaration is a curious, colourful and candid exploration of mental health, ADHD and diagnosis, which Salford-based arts company Art with Heart is bringing to The Black-E in partnership with the ADHD Foundation.

Instinctive, curious, bold and bouncy; Sarah is a mighty proud square peg, which wouldn’t be such a problem if the hole wasn’t so damn round. Sarah grew up feeling different. Her childhood Doctor thought it was sugar. Her current Doctor thinks its ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder). Sarah still feels different, so what will a label do? Will it change the way you see her and the way she sees herself? With autobiographical storytelling, comedy and conversations with audiences, Declaration takes you on vibrant and daring adventure.

This entertaining and powerful piece of theatre has been described as an incredibly useful resource for those living with or working with neurodiverse young people and adults. Following performer Sarah’s journey from childhood to present day, Declaration offers a rare insight into how ADHD can impact at different points throughout someone’s life and seeks to challenge some of the stereotypes and stigmas surrounding the condition.

Although Declaration explores mental health it is a really fun and hopeful production and a great night out!
