Hosted by LJMU | Various Dates from September – October 2024
LJMU is hosting a series of events to support cyclists of all abilities and experience. With funding from Cycling UK, they are holding Big Bike Revival sessions to encourage the uptake of cycling.
The events are mainly for adults wishing to learn to cycle, return to cycling, or who cycle infrequently (once a month or less) and wish to increase the amount they’re cycling. Children are also able to attend, however, anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian who also takes part in the class on a 1 to 1 ratio. The events are open to the community, and we would like to promote them to Cycling UK’s target demographics as follows:
- Women;
- People on low incomes;
- People who identify as belonging to an ethnic minority group;
- People not in work;
- People not meeting physical activity guidelines; and/or
- People with perceived barriers to cycling.
The different types of events we are holding include:
Dr Bike Clinics
A service to repair broken bicycles and do essential checks to ensure bikes are safe to ride. These sessions are drop-in sessions.
Bike Fix Basics
Learn how to maintain own bikes and perform basic repairs competently. Booking only.
Beginner Learn to Ride
Learn to ride a bike from beginner level. These sessions won’t take place on the road and are aimed at those who would like to learn to ride or have not ridden a bike for a number of years. Booking only.
Intermediate Learn to Ride
Those attending these sessions must have previously attended a Beginner Learn to Ride session. This session will improve upon the beginner skills that have previously been learnt and will teach individuals how to ride on the roads. Booking only.
Led Ride
Provide led rides locally to learn new routes, improve confidence, and feel safer cycling on the road and around the city. Booking only.
