Mermaids CPD Event
Mermaids is a registered charity, passionate about supporting children, young people, and their families to achieve a happier life in the face of great adversity. They work to raise awareness about gender nonconformity in children and young people amongst professionals and the general public. They campaign for the recognition of gender dysphoria in young people and lobby for improvements in professional services.
Mermaids has won a number of awards over the last few years and has recently worked on the production of Butterfly – created for television by BAFTA award-winning screenwriter Tony Marchant. Butterfly is a heartfelt and sensitive drama about the complex relationship between parents, and their division in opinion over how to support Max, their youngest child who, from a young age, has identified as a girl but has tried to suppress these feelings.
Mermaids are working together with Merseyside Police to educate and support officers and staff to better understand transgender, non-binary and gender non-conformity in order to more effectively serve our communities.
A number of events are being held and are supported by ACC Julie Cooke as the NPCC Lead for LGBT, Merseyside Police’s local LGBT Network and the Community Engagement Unit.
Eight sessions are available to Merseyside Police staff and valued partners. There is no cost to attend but they ask that you attend, participate and share the learning with colleagues. After the event Mermaids will make contact and provide some support resources and also request some feedback. Please share these effectively and support Mermaids in their charitable aims. https://www.mermaidsuk.org.uk/
