Hosted by Cheshire & Merseyside Cancer Alliance & the Health Equalities Group | Thursday 14 July 2022 | 2 – 4:30 pm (BST) | Online on Zoom
A pioneering new Strategic Overweight and Obesity Project is being launched at an online event on 14 July 2022 to reduce the levels of obesity and overweight across Cheshire and Merseyside.
Cheshire & Merseyside Cancer Alliance is working with Health Equalities Group – parent charity for Food Active – on a long-term project to lower people’s excess weight, as it is one of the main modifiable risk factors for cancer. Whilst having a strong focus on food systems, diet and physical activity, the project is also seeking to understand how the social and commercial determinants of health such as deprivation, employment, housing, planning, transport, and restrictions on junk food advertising relate to overweight and obesity.
The project will launch at the free online event on 14 July that will discuss overweight and obesity and cancer prevalence at national and sub-regional level, lived experience of obesity, social and commercial determinants of health, and will present new data mapping and qualitative research on obesity and cancer already undertaken by the project. The event is open to traditional health stakeholders, but we are encouraging non-health stakeholders from the private, public and VCFSE sectors, plus members of the public to attend.
