You are invited to attend the upcoming Science and Society lecture The role of science and technology in feeding the world with Professor Guy Poppy, Chief Scientific Adviser, Food Standards Agency and Professor of Food Security at the University of Southampton.
Achieving global food security is one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century and a key United Nations Sustainable Development Goal. Professor Poppy will explore how interdisciplinary research is required to address this and other key challenges using examples from Sub Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe whilst recognising the globalised food system is evolving at pace. He will outline how linking science and policy are crucial in ensuring UK consumers are food secure and how the use of technologies are crucial to ensuring food is safe and can be trusted today and tomorrow.
