Unlocking Potential : Inspiration Event

Event Date: 15 January 2019

DATE: Tuesday 15th January 2019

TIME: 12:00pm – 2:00pm

VENUE: The Old Hall, Cotton Exchange, Liverpool, L3 9LQ.

Professional Liverpool invite you to hear from leading career advice professionals and employability experts from Career Connect. Find out how they have transformed the lives and wellbeing of some the most vulnerable and disadvantaged young people in the Liverpool City Region through developing their resilience, skills and employment prospects.

Career Connect works with thousands of young people in their transition from school to adult and working life each year. The majority experience a positive transition, whether into further or higher education or in to employment via apprenticeship and other routes. However, a significant minority are not so fortunate, going through long periods of unemployment and disengagement from learning and work, or churning in and out of opportunities without establishing themselves in a productive destination.

There are a range of factors that inhibit the career development of such young people. These may include an unstable home life, poor mental health/wellbeing, poor attendance and attainment at school, lack of confidence, inability to commit to a career path and/or an inability to persevere and sustain education and work opportunities. Interestingly, these young people still cite their goal as finding satisfying paid work with prospects, despite their experience.

Career Connect has worked closely with a number of schools to identify those young people at risk of ‘failure’. They have developed a bespoke programme to raise the aspirations, confidence, commitment and resilience of these young people to prepare them for life beyond school.

Innovatively, Career Connect secured the capital to fund the programme from a range of social investors. The success of this venture has witnessed a substantial ROI for these investors and more importantly a significant social return in the achievement of the young people who were on the programme.

Career Connect are delighted to have the opportunity to share their experience with fellow members of Professional Liverpool in the hope that future investment in such programmes will continue to develop the workforce of tomorrow.

Arrival is from 12 noon onwards for networking and lunch, followed by the first speaker, Kieran Gordon, Career Connect’s Chief Executive, at 1.00pm. There will be the opportunity for Q&A. Event ends at 2.00pm
