Hosted by Vauxhall Law Centre | 2 – 9 June 2023 | VNC Millenium Resource Centre, Blenheim Street, L5 8UX
Vauxhall Law Centre celebrates its 50th Birthday this year and you’re invited!
They’re hosting a series of events to highlight the continuing struggles for access to justice, particularly for disadvantaged communities. The celebrations will start and finish with a performance of the Tayo Aluko play, “Just an ordinary Lawyer” The play which has a four star review in The Guardian tells the extraordinary true story of Tunji Sowande, a Nigerian, who in 1968 became the first black head of a major barrister’s chamber and the first (part-time) Black Judge in Britain.
Vauxhall Law Centre has provided support to community struggles for 50 years now. Initially established to provide housing advice to people living in the local Scotland Road community when many houses were not fit for human habitation, they continued to work challenging poverty and injustices in the community and with workers in their struggles for better conditions. The Law Centre, a charity, still provides free advice to people, particularly those who need advice or representation at appeal for disability benefits or eviction notices. They have and continue to support sick, disabled and vulnerable people in the community.
Please join them at one of their events to find out more about their work and celebrate their history.
