FareShare employment coach – A unique opportunity to join an amazing team.

FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 17 independent organisations. Together, we take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to almost 11,000 frontline charities and community groups. We support 10,962 local charities and community groups. Over the past year 24,074 tonnes of food were redistributed by FareShare Regional Centres and FareShare Go nationwide, our charity network serves 933,578 people every week.

General Background

Our team at FareShare Merseyside has been working tirelessly through the pandemic to help communities throughout the region. From our Regional Centre in Speke surplus food has been redistributed to hundreds of charities supporting thousands of local families and delivering enough food for over a million meals since March. This work has been critical during the initial phase of the pandemic.

Sadly we are already beginning to see some of the long-term economic impacts of the pandemic with many retail businesses closing, companies making staff redundant and a rise in people suffering from periods of isolation and anxiety about the future. A silver lining has been a huge growth in demand for people to work in the logistics sector – especially food businesses. FareShare is in a unique position to help people gain work in this sector.

In February 2021 we will be launching an Employability Project in our Merseyside regional centre which will support people back in to work. This 18 month project will see participants become involved in our warehousing and logistics operation. Whilst on the programme participants will receive:

  • Vocational experience – helping us in the warehouse and to deliver food across the region
  • Skills training – like manual handling and how to operate a forklift truck
  • Employment support – coaching support in finding, applying for and securing a job
  • Well-being support – a key focus on the individual’s wellbeing and support to help them develop physically, mentally and socially

The Role

We are looking to recruit an employability coach to join the project team. Whilst direct experience supporting people to find work will be an advantage, we would also encourage applicants with experience supporting individuals in other areas.

The participants will be at the heart of our project and we want to create positive, person-centric approach. Whilst we aim for 50% of participants to gain employment, we want everyone to be positively impacted by coming through our programme. This role will also suit applicants who have experience in working with people holistically, are able to take a strength based approach and are able to adapt their support to enable and encourage the people on the programme to succeed.
