Friends of Anfield Cemetery is looking for potential partners for their various history, heritage and creative projects

Anfield’s 141-acre Grade II* cemetery is the final resting place of approx. 600,000 people. It is the largest geographical footprint from which to tell Liverpool’s remarkable history over the last 200 years. The charity – Friends of Anfield Cemetery intend to submit a funding application to the National Lottery within 3 weeks. ‘A wider range of people will get involved in heritage’ is a key component of their National Lottery application and must take central stage.

If their bid is successful, some of the funding will be used to support the type of projects listed below. However, you may wish to suggest others.

If you’d like to discuss possible involvement (and some funding) with one or more of their projects, please contact Tom Bradburn on tom@friendsofanfield.com as soon as possible, as they do need a quick response.

Over a 2 year period, there will be history and heritage tours and a range of smaller creative projects, starting about March 2024.

Examples of projects are:

  1. Producing design ideas for a replacement Blitz War Memorial – now beyond repair
  2. Producing stories / information to put on a cemetery-wide Mobile Phone QR system, to inform visitors about the amazing range of people within the cemetery
  3. Designing lamp post banners, to be erected along Priory Road (subject to Planning Consent) to encourage passers-by to visit the cemetery and perhaps other Anfield historic and heritage areas
  4. Take part in photographic, painting and literature competitions relating to Anfield Cemetery
  5. History and Heritage Tour Guide and volunteer training
  6. Take part in history / heritage themed videos, to educate visitors about the lives of Liverpool people and their contribution to our unique history
  7. Produce designs for an Anfield ‘welcome’ leaflet aimed at Liverpool’s Tourism Industry
  8. Produce Anfield Cemetery Heritage Tour literature.

The four community projects (in bold) will be supported by a Designer/Illustrator.

Friends of Anfield Cemetery is a charity (Charity Number: 1161476).
