Liverpool City Council would like to hear your views on a budget proposal in regards to the Discretionary Council Tax Relief for Foster Carers. The council is looking to achieve savings of £480,000 from this scheme.

What is the Discretionary Council Tax Relief for Foster Carers?

Currently, foster carers registered with Liverpool City Council and residing in Liverpool receive a 100% discount on their council tax bill. Foster carers registered with Liverpool City Council but residing in other local authority areas receive a payment equivalent to 100% of their annual council tax bill in that area.

This discretionary support for foster carers was introduced as an incentive as part of a wider carer recruitment and retention strategy. This discretionary support costs about £480,000 per year.

They are consulting on a proposal to stop providing the 100% council tax discretionary relief for foster carers registered with Liverpool City Council.

Liverpool City Council is facing unprecedented budget pressures which means that it has to find savings of £73M in 2023/2024 and further savings in the two following years.
