Marginal CIO Vacancy – Marginal Project Worker

Salary: 18k pro rata
Hours: 15 hours per week

Marginal CIO is an innovative charity that aims to be the first young person led publishing house of its kind in the UK and delivers comics-based wellbeing programmes for young people aged 6-18 and young adult aged 19-25 including looked after children, young carers, young people with chronic and terminal illnesses, care leavers, LGBTQIA young people and young people experiencing mental ill-health. The overall ethos of the organisation is to enable young people who are marginalised or disadvantaged by systems to speak truth to power by professionally publishing their stories for the world to see and take notice. This post is funded by the Postcode Community Trust.

Main Duties:

The post of Marginal Project Worker is an exciting and dynamic position that is integral to the development of Marginal CIO’s core mission and objectives. The post-holder will provide an integrated package of proactive, reactive and rehabilitative support for chronically and terminally ill young people aged 8-18 via the delivery of ward-based comic book creation and graphic narrative session in conjunction with patients. The role will require an aptitude for illustration and considerable energy, enthusiasm, passion and empathy to inspire young people to have their voices heard. The project will culminate in publishing an anthology of young people’s patient stories. 60% of the role will entail direct Youth Work and 40% will entail illustration work.

The post is offered on a fixed term basis of one year initially with the possibility of extension funding beyond this point. Appointment is subject to a 3-month probationary period, satisfactory reference and DBS check.
