Merseyside Police | Have your say on the Police Race Action Plan

The Police Race Action Plan released by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and the College of Policing sets out the commitment of Chief Constables in England and Wales to become an anti-racist police service, address significantly lower levels of trust and confidence among some Black people and explain or reform race disparities.

The plan, which was launched in May, is currently open to independent scrutiny from the public, police officers and staff and other stakeholders, who are invited to share their views in a survey.

All feedback will be considered before the plan is finalised in December 2022.

Their commitments in the plan include:

  • Zero tolerance of racism in policing
  • Adopting an ‘explain or reform’ approach to address the negative impact and outcomes experienced by Black people
  • Increasing the awareness and understanding of every officer and member of staff of racism; anti-racism and Black history and its connection to policing, through training for all
  • Better enabling Black people to have their voices heard, by asking for input from local communities and Black police officers and staff
  • Increasing the involvement of Black communities in their work and improving the support to Black victims of crime.
