National Para Swimming Championships – Volunteers Required

Background
Our charity Activity Alliance works to make active lives possible. We do this by enabling organisations to support disabled individuals to be and stay active. Our work is centred on research and insight with disabled people as well as our engagement with disability and sports organisations

Event
This annual prestigious championships takes place on the 2-3 March 2019, the National Junior Para Swimming Championships will be held at Liverpool Aquatics Centre. It is organised by the Activity Alliance in partnership with Swim England and British Para Swimming.
The event will host a mixture of celebrated young Para swimmers old and new, alongside the next generation of rising stars.

Sessions times are as follows:
Satruday 2 March 2019
Session 1 – Start: 9:30am – 12pm
Session 2 – Start: 1:30pm – 4pm

Sunday 3 March 2019
Session 3 – Start: 9:30am – 12pm

We are looking for help in lots of different roles from Warm Up Marshalls, Competitor Stewards and General Stewards.

Role: Door Security
Responsible to: Volunteer Manager

The Volunteer door security is responsible for and is required to:

  • Be the second point of contact for athletes, officials, the general public, VIPs and facility staff
  • To ensure everyone who enters the pool area has the correct accreditation and wristbands
  • To be vigilant and keep the On Deck Manager informed of any suspicious characters or goings on
  • To ensure that “common sense” prevails when liaising with different individuals

Role: Warm Up Marshall / Basket Marshall
Responsible to: Volunteer Manager

The volunteer Warm up/Basket marshall is responsible for and is required to:

  • Ensuring swimmers abide by lane rules during warm up prior to the commencement of the championships.
  • Aid swimmers with appliances and wheelchairs where necessary.
  • Ensure swimmers safety at all times in and around the pool area.
  • Responsible for the rotation of ‘athletes baskets of belongings’ before and after each race and also the ‘flow’ of swimmers after each race in line with the programme of events.

Role: Competitor Steward
Responsible to: Competitor Steward Manager

  • Be the first point of contact for swimmers and coaches prior to competitive races.
  • Responsible for directing the swimmers within the call-up area and co-ordinating their movement prior to the race.
  • Ensure swimmers are directed safely from the call-up area to their allocated lane in time for the race.
  • Responsible for maintaining the ‘flow’ of swimmers and communicating any issues with the athletes, Officials and Event staff.
