Open Eye Looks for New Trustees and Volunteers

Board Members

Open Eye is seeking new Board members keen to become active and energetic champions for Open Eye Gallery as it expands the programme of work. Open Eye Gallery is a charitable organisation, and is looking for individuals who have the expertise, connections and contacts with whom they are willing to actively promote Open Eye.

Open Eye is particularly keen on extending its Board’s expertise and skills base from professionals from the finance and business sectors.

Board members need to commit an average of 1/4 day per month or three days per annum. There is an expectation that members attend 50% of the four board meetings each year. Attendance can be done ‘virtually’ if attendance in person is not possible.

Volunteer Exhibition Assistant

PRESENCE: A Window into Chinese Contemporary Art is an exhibition of the New Collection of Chinese Contemporary Art, part of the University of Salford Art Collection, consisting of artwork by 19 contemporary artists from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

This year, coinciding with the display of the historic Terracotta Warriors in Liverpool, Open Eye presents an exhibition of cutting edge contemporary Chinese art that celebrates the city’s strong relationship with China. Working with St. George’s Hall, Open Eye Gallery, and Liverpool City Council, Open Eye is welcoming a fresh team of people to help enhance the visitor experience.

Volunteers will play a key role in the day to day running of the exhibition space, making it a welcoming and friendly environment. No previous experience or specialist knowledge is required, as full training will be provided. All you need to have  is commitment, an interest in art, and a willingness to be the face of PRESENCE: A Window into Chinese Contemporary Art for the public.

Your duties will include greeting and directing visitors around the exhibition, helping visitors to engage with the exhibition by providing background information on the artworks, and invigilating the gallery spaces.

In return for your time you’ll gain work experience and develop your skills, as well as the chance to improve your career prospects through networking, and a valuable insight into an art gallery setting. You will also be invited to social events and the end of exhibition party.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed up to £7.50 per day. You must be able to commit one day per week, 9.45 am – 5.15 pm, with a lunch break.
