PSS – Trustee

This is a voluntary role.

Posts available: 1 – 4 people.
Contract: Up to a maximum of three terms of three years, subject to election by the membership.
Hours: This varies but, on average, about half a day a month.
Reporting to: Chair of the Board.
Location: Liverpool.

PSS is a social enterprise that supports people to live happy, healthy and hopeful lives, whether they’re:

  • adults who have learning or physical disabilities, challenges with their mental health or difficulties as they’re getting older;
  • people in and around the criminal justice system; or
  • families who’ve been through unsteady times.

No matter who you are or where your life has taken you, PSS will listen, understand and find a way to help you reach your goals.

PSS was founded in 1919 by Eleanor Rathbone, a lady famous for tackling social injustices and over the last century, PSS founded Age UK, Riverside Housing and Legal aid and were there at the very start of the Citizens’ Advice Bureau. Today PSS offers 11 different services to help people get the most from their life, from health and wellbeing to social care services. PSS operates across England and Wales but their story began in Liverpool and this is where their head office calls home.

Job Description

Ever seen the film Taken? Well, if you have, PSS is looking for the Liam Neesons of the world, people who have a very particular set of skills that they’ve acquired over the years (you don’t need to be a CIA agent, don’t worry). PSS are on the hunt for some awesome people with the following skills that will take their Board of trustees to the next level:

  • Social care
  • Digital technology
  • Communications and marketing
  • Human resources.

PSS is also looking to build a more diverse organisation. They have a younger-than-average Board because they recognise that people from all different backgrounds can offer something different to the organisation. However, they really want wider representation from ethnic minority groups so that the people making the big decisions reflect the faces, voices and cultures of people in the communities they serve. So, whatever your age, ethnicity or cultural background, PSS need people with the same passion for people that are rooted in the values of their current trustees, who can look at things with a fresh set of eyes and a different set of life experiences.

Trustees take ultimate responsibility for everything that PSS do, so it’s really important they get the right people on board (pun intended!) If you’re an expert in one or more of the above skill areas PSS are looking for and think you’ve got what it takes to help them reach new heights, they’d love to hear from you!
