Riverside Learning & Education Centre – Communications Assistant (Kickstart programme)

This is a vacancy under the government KICKSTART programme.

Riverside Learning & Education is looking to recruit a Communications Assistant who can assist in the development & delivery of a media and communications strategy for the organisation. This will include content for our website and maintaining social media accounts in addition to paper-based materials.

What skills/experience do you need?

Essential: Excellent digital skills. Must be familiar with using social media platforms, e.g., Facebook Twitter & Instagram. Some basic knowledge of web design would be useful. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and basic graphics. Good communication skills verbal and written. Good interpersonal skills and a friendly personality. Ability to work well in a team but also able to work independently. A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn.

About Riverside Learning & Education

Established by the community, Riverside Learning & Education has been a registered charity for over 40 years and during this time has provided vocational training opportunities for thousands of people.

They specialise in providing education and qualifications to employed and unemployed people and giving them “outstanding development” according to OFSTED. They also have an Alternative Education offer to under 16-year-old children who are out of mainstream education.

In summary, their strength and purpose have been to offer life-changing opportunities for people many of whom have been out of the workplace for an extended period.

Looking to the future, they have been successful in obtaining a substantial government-funded Traineeship programme for 16- to 18-year-olds. Successful delivery will provide ongoing employment opportunities within the Riverside LEC. Team.

What do they offer?

Being a small team, the Kickstarter will be encouraged to be part of the existing team gaining an overview of the organisation and roles.

Formal training is offered to all staff during induction including Safeguarding; Data Protection; Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity and internal job-specific training provided.

A Workplace Mentor will be appointed to oversee and support development. Alongside this will be on-the-job and other bespoke training/development as opportunities arise.

Being an Advice and guidance kitemarked organisation (Matrix) they will provide close support, covering Initial assessment and action planning, ongoing reviews Careers Information Advice and Guidance, On the Job support along with advice and support on CVs & application forms, Interview skills and Job search advice.

Weekly pay at NMW for 25 hours per week plus parking and a small canteen.
