Sahir House has appointed a new CEO

Sahir House has announced the successful appointment of Helen Wilkinson as chief executive officer. Helen is an experienced director and CEO, having worked with boards and teams in the public, voluntary and social enterprise sectors, in executive and non-executive roles, at the national and community level. Her expertise spans leadership and management, governance, policy, media, communications, strategy, service transformation and programme delivery.

Helen commented: “I am delighted to be joining Sahir House’s award winning team, with its local roots, national reputation and global sensibility. This is a challenging time for everyone but we need to make sure those who are vulnerable and at risk of being stigmatised benefit from the support they need and have their voices heard. I am impressed by Sahir House’s innovative approach, evolving and expanding its services to meet new needs, such as refugees and asylum seekers facing additional challenges on account of their sexuality and their gender. The pandemic has exposed deep seated divides and health inequalities in our society and it is really important that Sahir House continues to amplify the voices and needs of the diverse communities we serve, and secures resources so that we can continue to develop our services, and reach out, enhancing individual and community wellbeing in the process”.

Sahir House has been offering HIV support, prevention, information and training across Merseyside since 1985. Sahir House increases HIV and sexual health knowledge, reduces stigma and campaigns for the rights for those living with HIV and related intersectionality’s (gender, sexuality, asylum status).

Maire Daley, chair of the board of trustees commented: “The board of trustees are looking forward to working with Helen. She brings with her energy and enthusiasm together with a wealth of skills and experience. In spite of the difficult times we find ourselves in the Board is confident that with Helen we have a safe pair of hands to lead Sahir House in the direction we know we need to go.”

Helen, who was born in Liverpool and currently lives in Wales, will begin her role as the new CEO on Monday 17 May 2021.
