Sahir House – Trustee

This is a voluntary role.

Posts available: Multiple.
Hours: They currently meet every six weeks, generally on weekday evenings.
Reporting to: Chair of the Board.
Location: Hybrid (Face-to-face/Online).

Trustees are also expected to attend occasional public or private events. Trustees must be able to commit two to three days a quarter, on average, in order to read papers, attend meetings and events, and contribute between meetings by emails and calls, as required.

Sahir House is a vibrant Merseyside-based charity with a big heart. Their organisation serves a unique dual purpose – they promote better sexual health and wellness for all and they support the needs of LGBTQ+ people across the region. Since their formation, at the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, the needs of people living with HIV have been fundamental to their development and core to their purpose.

What will you be doing?

Trustees play a vital role in making sure that Sahir House achieves its core purpose. They ensure that Sahir House has a clear strategy and that their work and goals are in line with their vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the CEO to ensure that Sahir House continues to grow and thrive.

What are they looking for?

They hope to attract new trustees to bolster their work during a time of real growth and renewal within the charity. They are particularly, but not exclusively, interested in hearing from people with experience in:

  • Fundraising and/or Business Development
  • Organisational Development
  • Immigration & Asylum Law
  • Health & Social Care.

They particularly encourage applications from people of colour, those with disabilities or protected characteristics (including LGBTQ+) and they would very much like people who have previously accessed their services to consider applying.

What difference will you make?

This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the local community and to support people, particularly, who are finding life challenging. Their programmes are greatly valued by their service users and their communities. They are always seeking to develop their provision to address and meet local needs.

For more information and to apply, in the first instance, please contact Gill Clotworthy at gillian.clotworthy@sahir.uk.com who can arrange to send you a copy of their trustee role description. They can also arrange for you to have an informal conversation with one of their current trustees.

Deadline: Friday 14 October 2022.
