Employer Bio

South Liverpool Foodbank don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why they provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who have been left without enough money to live on, referred by partner agencies. They are part of a nationwide community of food banks, supported by Trussell, working to end hunger across the UK. They opened in 2009 and currently distribute food from eight different centres, with at least one centre open Monday-Saturday. They also signpost to other relevant organisations, including to the four food pantries they manage, and partner with Citizens Advice Liverpool, with a dedicated advisor available at many foodbank sessions.

Job Summary

South Liverpool Foodbank works with volunteer teams at 8 different food bank centres, and 4 partner food pantries, supported by teams at our warehouse (18 sessions altogether each week). In total more than 100 regular volunteers are responsible for all our weekly activities – helping clients and shoppers; preparing parcels; collecting, sorting and delivering donations. They also run multiple food collection days at supermarkets throughout the year, including volunteers with more limited availability, and additional warehouse sessions, in collaboration with corporate volunteer teams. They sometimes support younger volunteers participating in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.

It is essential that we can effectively manage the recruitment, training and on-going support of their volunteers to fulfil the varied requirements of their food bank. They have a full-time position available, with volunteer co-ordination occupying approximately 75% of the role. Other responsibilities will be linked to general food bank activities such as helping with food bank sessions, responding to clients and agencies, and engaging with donors. They are looking for someone who is excellent at communicating, ideally with experience of managing people, as well as methodical and meticulous.
