Term: Fixed term contract until 30th September 2021
Hours: 39 hrs pw
Salary: £22,526-£26,501 pa (please note successful candidates should expect to be appointed at the starting point of the salary scale and consideration may be given to a higher salary depending on the experience of the individual)

Are you a confident and resilient individual with lived experience of the issues facing vulnerable young people (i.e. involvement in gangs or knife crime) and a proven ability to engage successfully with individuals despite their challenging behaviour? St Giles Trust is looking for a Senior Gangs Mentor & Groupwork Facilitator to join our SOS+ team and deliver a vital service that will address these important social issues in the St. Helens area.

Our award-winning SOS+ Service works with young people in a variety of settings by delivering sessions and workshops in schools, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), Community Centres and to Youth Offender Teams. The mission of SOS+ is to prevent children and young people becoming involved in gangs and youth violence by equipping them with tools, knowledge and support delivered by experts with lived experience.
About this vital role
Delivering preventative and early intervention Gangs, Serious Youth Violence & Exploitation group sessions to children and young people, parents and professionals on criminal justice issues is what’s needed here. We’ll also rely on you to provide targeted 1:1 mentoring support for 11-18 year olds who have been identified as being high risk. A great opportunity to contribute towards the overarching aim of reducing exclusions, it will involve working closely with schools and PRUs and developing relationships based on trust while prioritising safeguarding. You’ll also work alongside an Early Help team and other multi-agency teams, attend key meetings and feed intelligence back in.
What we are looking for:
• Personal experience of the criminal justice system, or lived experience of the issues facing this client group (i.e. involved in gangs or knife crime)
• A track record of working positively with socially excluded children, young people or adults, including delivering sessions to groups and/or mentoring young people effectively
• Proven experience of assessing the needs of children and young people who are at risk of significant harm providing support, advice and advocacy and communicating the needs of clients to other professionals
• The ability to work as part of a multiagency team in a high intensity environment to achieve positive outcomes for young people and establishing links to further the aims of a project
• Self-motivation, a positive attitude and flexible approach, the confidence to speak in front of large groups and ability to effectively manage your own wellbeing
• A relevant qualification (or currently working towards one), strong IT skills, plus a full driving licence and willingness to drive
