Tesco’s Bags of Help is an exciting grant programme funded through the money raised from the 10p bag charge in Tesco stores in England, Wales and Scotland. Their grant programme supports local good causes with grants up to £4,000 can be allocated to support projects that benefit the community.
The types of project they fund is very broad. This could be purchasing items, materials and equipment to benefit the local community, improvements to a community building, developing an outdoor space, running a community event or activity, supporting seasonal activities, etc. They will also cover staffing costs to manage volunteers and staff to lead activities or training sessions, website development for publicity and promotion and workshops.
Applications will be accepted from a wide range of organisations including: voluntary/community organisations, registered charities, schools, health bodies, Parish/Town councils, social enterprises, Community Interest Companies, community councils, local authorities and housing organisations. Other not-for-profit organisations might also be eligible. However businesses, individuals and ‘for profit’ organisations are not eligible.
‘Bags of Help’ is a rolling programme, where community groups or charities can apply for funding all year round. Applicants will generally know the outcome of their application within 6 months of applying, but can be longer in regions where we have a lot of applications. However, if your application is eligible, but not funded at the first attempt, your application may be reconsidered at subsequent shortlisting. Please note, we will contact you in this instance, to ensure that you are happy for us to do this.
As this is a rolling programme, voting for projects will be happening continuously in Tesco stores. Three projects from each local area will be shortlisted to go to the public vote every two months. If your project gets the most votes across all stores in your region, you will win the grant amount you requested from us up to a maximum of £4,000. If your project is second, you will win up to £2,000 and if your project is third, you will win up to £1,000. http://www.groundwork.org.uk/Sites/tescocommunityschemeBack to blog
