Peer Action Collective project to create jobs for young people

The Peer Action Collective (PAC) project, which is funded by the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF), will create jobs in Merseyside for young people aged 16–20 years.

As the lead organization within the partnership, The Young Person’s Advisory Service (YPAS) is looking to employ twelve young people in the PAC Peer Researcher role which is part of their “Participation & Social Action” project.

The candidates’ salary will be JNC Scale 1 – 17,842 pro rota (£9.80 per hour) and the contract will be fixed term (until 31 December 2022). They will work 500 hours which is approximately 14 hours per week.

Young people will be trained to undertake research by talking to people in their local community and people around the same age as them about specific issues, challenges and topics that matter to them. All too often, children and young people who experience violence are not heard, so research may also include experiences of violence in communities and how to best tackle it through social action. Qualifications or experience will not be required. Young people who are interested in social action, campaigning, working in a team and those who are open-minded will be exemplary for this role.

Candidates for this role will be supported to take the lead by the PAC, they will be in charge of asking questions and finding out what needs to happen to make their area a better place for children and young people to live. But it is more than learning about what needs to change, being part of the PAC means that they will get support to take their research and turn it into action. From campaigning to improve local mental health services, setting up a youth centre or supporting more young people into employment – all of it will work to create opportunities for them to make their community a safer and fairer place.
