The Reader – Director of the Calderstones Mansion House Community Interest Company (CIC)

The Reader is an award-winning national charity and Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation. Having just recently reopened their headquarters at the beautiful Grade II listed Mansion House in Liverpool’s Calderstones Park and as they emerge from a period of challenge and innovation following Covid-19, they are at a key period in their growth.

Job Description

Could you help The Reader further its mission and build its social enterprises? They are looking for up to three new Independent Directors of the Calderstones Mansion House Community Interest Company, and are particularly interested to hear from people with expertise in the hospitality sector. Appointees do not need to live locally to Calderstones Mansion House in Liverpool and travel expenses will be provided. The roles are unremunerated and require a three year commitment in the first instance.

The Calderstones CIC has three goals:

  • To provide services that are valued in the community and contribute to the mission of The Reader Charity
  • To provide meaningful opportunities for employment and skills, particularly for those who need it most
  • To provide a sustainable unrestricted source of income to support The Reader’s primary purpose.

Income is currently generated through The Reader Ice Cream Parlour, The Reader Café and The Reader Restaurant alongside events at the Mansion House.

Directors of the CIC Board are required to ensure that their social enterprises have a strong strategic approach which preserves its unique identity; ensuring that arrangements are in place for it to continue to flourish whilst being highly effective in achieving the aims as set out in the CIC 5 year Business Plan. Operational decisions at TR are delegated to The Managing Director, Jemma Guerrier, the Director of Social Enterprise Anton Clarke and the Directors Group.
